Sophie Hediger, a 26-year-old snowboarder from Switzerland who competed in the 2022 Winter Olympics, has tragically passed away following an avalanche in Arosa, a Swiss resort town.
The Swiss-Ski federation confirmed her death on their official website.
Hediger competed in Beijing’s Winter Olympics and achieved a seventh-place finish in the mixed team snowboard cross event. During the 2023-2024 season, she earned her first two World Cup podium finishes, marking significant milestones in her career.
Walter Reusser, the CEO of Swiss-Ski, expressed his deep sorrow, saying her passing was sudden and tragic. “The Swiss-Ski family is profoundly saddened by Sophie’s untimely death, which has cast a somber shadow over the Christmas season,” he stated. “We will always cherish her memory with great respect.”
